ActionAid is an international anti-poverty agency working in over 50 countries, taking sides with poor people to end poverty and injustice together.
One of ActionAid's key thematic areas is the right to human security in conflict and emergencies.
ActionAid Australia, formerly named Austcare, has been active in Timor-Leste since 1981 and currently works with conflict affected communities; implementing an integrated community development project in Bobonaro District involving peacebuilding, food security and community education activities, and providing protection to IDPs in Baucau, Viqueque and Lautem through a Protection Team based in Baucau.
The Small Arms Survey, established in 1999 at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, is the primary source of substantive information on all aspects of the small arms and light weapons issue.
Its flagship publication, the Small Arms Survey yearbook (published by Oxford University Press, 2001-2007, and Cambridge University Press, 2007), is an annual review of global small arms issues, including small arms production, transfers, stockpiles, socio-economic impacts, and measures and interventions.
In addition, the SAS works with a large network of local, regional and international partners on more than 50 research projects around the globe, the vast majority of which are undertaken in the field.
The SAS has expertise in rapid baseline assessments with multilateral and bilateral development partners in more than 25 post-conflict countries.
ActionAid and the SAS have a pool of human resources, including protection experts, development practitioners, social science experts specialised in conducting household questionnaires, focus groups and key informant interviews, and individuals experienced in administering training workshops on small arms issues.
SAS has conducted small arms baseline assessments in conjunction with UNDP and other UN agencies in a number of countries, including Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, Sudan, Uganda, Tajikistan, Haiti, Mauritania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia-Montenegro, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands.
ActionAid and SAS will sub-contract local partner organisations to assist with project implementation, including human rights-based and Judicial System Monitoring (JSM) organisations.
An academic research partner with relevant competencies will also be involved in this baseline assessment.
The Australian Government's overseas aid program is a federally funded program that aims to reduce poverty in developing countries.
The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) manages the program. The aim of the program is to assist developing countries reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development, in line with Australia's national interest.
